Objectives

  • A minimum wage that will match the decent wage mark set by the National Bank
  • The amendment of the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011 to replace the National Advisory Board with a tripartite council that is empowered by law to determine the minimum wage in an open and transparent manner

Why We Need a Higher Minimum Wage

While Malaysian workers have a minimum wage, the quantum of the wage puts workers at the level of poverty. Workers doomed to live on the minimum wage have to depend on excessive overtime work in order to be able to provide the basic necessities for themselves and their familities. We ask that the minimum wage be fixed at a level that workers can actually live on after 8 hours of work a day. As inflation increases, we demand for a transparent way to determine the minimum wage and not leeave it to the wiles and fancies of a Cabinet Minister.
